Amazon announced new R8in, R8ib, R8idn, and R8idb EC2 instances with higher compute performance and network bandwidth in Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Ireland.
Amazon Web Services has expanded its EC2 compute portfolio with the launch of four new R8 instance types—R8in, R8ib, R8idn, and R8idb—offering higher CPU performance and up to 100 Gbps network bandwidth in the Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Ireland regions.
New R8 instance family
The R8 family builds on the previous R7 generation, delivering up to 30 % more compute power per vCPU and enhanced EBS‑optimized throughput. Each instance type targets specific workload patterns, from memory‑intensive analytics (R8in) to storage‑heavy database workloads (R8idb).
Regional availability
Customers in the Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), and Europe (Ireland) regions can now provision these instances, reducing latency for local applications and expanding capacity for global enterprises.
Key capabilities
- Up to 64 vCPUs per instance
- Up to 1 TB of RAM
- Enhanced networking with up to 100 Gbps bandwidth
- EBS‑optimized with up to 80 GB/s throughput
The new instances are compatible with existing Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) and support the latest Intel and AMD processor architectures, allowing seamless migration from older instance types.
