Amazon Web Services is extending its Oracle‑focused RDS offering with high‑performance M8i and R8i instance types to additional locations across Asia Pacific, Canada West, Europe and Israel.

AWS expands its Oracle‑compatible RDS portfolio, adding M8i and R8i instance types to nine new regions across Asia Pacific, Canada West, Europe and Israel.

New regions and instance capabilities

The M8i and R8i instances are built on the latest Intel Xeon Scalable processors, delivering up to 30% higher compute performance and up to 2× memory bandwidth compared with previous generation offerings.

Available regions now include Singapore, Sydney, Osaka, Seoul, Toronto (Canada West), Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Tel Aviv, extending the reach of high‑performance Oracle workloads on Amazon RDS.

Why M8i and R8i matter for Oracle users

M8i instances target general‑purpose workloads, offering a balanced mix of CPU, memory, and network resources, while R8i instances are optimized for memory‑intensive applications such as large in‑memory databases and analytics.

  • Up to 64 vCPUs per instance
  • Up to 1 TB of RAM for R8i
  • Enhanced networking with up to 100 Gbps bandwidth
  • Native support for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition

Impact on existing RDS customers

Current RDS Oracle customers can migrate to the new instance types without downtime by using the RDS console or API, taking advantage of automated backups and Multi‑AZ deployments.

The expanded regional footprint also reduces latency for enterprises operating in the newly added locations, improving application responsiveness and user experience.

Looking ahead

AWS has indicated that additional instance families will follow this rollout, further diversifying options for high‑performance database workloads on the cloud.
