The design studio Koto unveiled a new visual identity for Franki, aiming to make time feel like a dance.
Koto has given restaurant‑discovery app Franki a fresh visual identity, swapping its muted interface for vibrant typography and a cast of playful characters that turn the act of choosing a meal into a rhythmic experience.
Design concept
The studio aimed to make “time feel like a dance” by introducing kinetic letterforms and animated mascots that guide users through the app’s menu‑search journey.
Bold, multicoloured typefaces replace the previous static fonts, while the new characters—each representing a different cuisine—appear as users scroll, adding a sense of movement and delight.
Typography and colour
Koto selected a custom sans‑serif typeface with variable weights, allowing headings to swell and shrink in sync with user interactions. The colour palette draws from warm reds, sunny yellows and cool teals, echoing the diverse flavours found on Franki’s platform.
User experience enhancements
Beyond aesthetics, the redesign introduces subtle micro‑animations that respond to taps, making the discovery process feel more tactile. The playful characters act as visual cues, highlighting featured restaurants and special offers without overwhelming the interface.
- Dynamic typography that reacts to scrolling
- Animated mascots representing global cuisines
- Micro‑interactions that reinforce user actions
- A warm, food‑inspired colour scheme
“We wanted to turn a simple search into a moment of joy, like a dance you can’t help but join,” said Koto’s creative director.
The redesign has been rolled out to both iOS and Android versions of Franki, with early user feedback praising the lively visuals and smoother navigation.
