Vietnam’s government has called on tech giants Qualcomm and Samsung to expand their investments in artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, robotics and next‑generation 5G/6G networks, aiming to transform the nation into a regional hub for innovation.
Government push for deeper tech partnerships
During a high‑level meeting in Hanoi, officials highlighted the strategic importance of AI and chip production for Vietnam’s economic diversification and competitiveness in Southeast Asia.
The ministry of science and technology stressed that scaling up local capabilities in advanced semiconductors and robotics will create high‑skill jobs and reduce reliance on imported components.
Qualcomm’s role in AI and 5G rollout
Qualcomm, already a key supplier of 5G radio hardware to Vietnamese operators, is being urged to establish a research centre focused on AI‑driven applications for agriculture, manufacturing and smart cities.
Samsung’s expansion plans
Samsung, which operates a major semiconductor fab in the southern province of Binh Duong, is expected to increase its wafer production capacity and explore joint ventures in AI‑enabled consumer electronics.
