Why a sovereign cloud matters
The European Union has tightened data‑sovereignty rules, requiring public‑sector bodies to keep sensitive information on servers located in the bloc and subject to EU law. Atos Sovereign Cloud is built to meet those requirements, offering a dedicated infrastructure that is designed and engineered in the EU, separate from the public offerings of major hyperscalers.
Key capabilities of the platform
- End‑to‑end encryption and zero‑trust networking for enhanced cyber‑resilience
- Compliance with GDPR, NIS2 and sector‑specific regulations such as the EU Defence Procurement Directive
- Dedicated data‑centres in France, Germany and Italy, all operated under Atos’ European governance model

Target markets and rollout plan
The initial focus is on national ministries, defense ministries, public safety agencies and regulated utilities. Atos plans to make the service available across all EU member states by the end of 2027, scaling the underlying infrastructure as demand grows.
